What exactly is Paintless Dent Repair?

Paintless dent repair (PDR) or paintless dent removal, describes a method of removing dents from vehicles. A wide range of damage can be repaired using paintless dent repair as long as the paint surface is intact. Paintless dent repair can be used on both steel and aluminium panels, but expect to pay a lot more for paintless dent repair on an aluminium panel as aluminium panels take a lot more work.

The most common practical use for paintless dent repair is the repair of hail damage, door on door dings, shopping trolley dings, minor creases, large non stretched dents and body line dents. Limiting factors for a successful repair include the flexibility of the paint, the extent to which the metal has been stretched by the damage, which depends on the thickness of the metal, the curvature or flatness where the damage occurred and the intensity of the impact.

Generally speaking, the shallower the dent, the greater the likelihood of paintless dent repair being a suitable option. Even large dents can be repaired by this method as long as the metal has not been stretched. Very sharp dents and stretched dent are not usually suitable for paintless dent removal.
